Dr. Joseph De Armas has practiced in North County San Diego for 25 years. He graduated from the prestigious Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in 1988. As a college athlete, he suffered an injury to his spine, which left him disabled and in pain. Orthopedic medicine offered him a diagnosis and multiple prescription drugs, which clouded his studies and did nothing to improve his condition. After weeks of suffering he sought the services of a chiropractor and within one treatment he was 50 percent improved. Three follow up treatments later, he was out of pain and spasm, drug free, and back to full participation on his college ice hockey team. It was after this experience that he determined that he wanted to do for other people, what this chiropractor had done for him.
He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from San Diego State University in 1984 and earned his doctorate from LACC in 1988. One year later he was certified in Applied Kinesiology from the International College of Applied Kinesiology. In 1989 he was awarded the honor of the ICAK new doctor of the year due to his contribution and excellence to the field of Applied Kinesiology. He has served as the official chiropractor for the San Diego Gulls professional hockey team and was a member of the medical staff for the Ironman Triathlon Championships in Kona Hawaii. Dr. De Armas has treated thousands of professional and amateur athletes from nearly all sports disciplines. He has studied under Dr. James Cox, the founder and developer of the “Cox Technique” treatment protocol for spinal disk injuries. He also had the esteemed privilege to study hundreds of hours of “Applied Kinesiology” under the direct tutelage of Dr. George Goodheart.
Dr. Joe, as he is known, has thousands of hours of clinical nutrition training. He is an adjunct faculty member at Southern California University of Healthy Sciences and Bastyr University of Naturopathic Medicine in San Diego, California. He practices what he preaches and follows an organic “Paleo” style diet, harvesting seasonally from his organic garden. When not in the office, he can be found in the gym, riding the waves at various north county surf breaks, or engaging in his passion for falconry with his Harris hawk.
